There is an evidence, that the method of local cooling can improve the recovery of physical strength in an athlete and thereby enhances athletic performance. At the same time, the mechanism of action behind the cooling procedure is not studied enough. The article presents, along with the results of the experimental studies on the role of brown adipose tissue (BAT) in lactate metabolism while limbs of the athletes were cooled down, data on the experimental hypothesis verification whether local cooling improve ski sprinters performance. It was tested on a ski ergometer, that if a hand immersed into 4C water for 45 seconds, the lactate level becomes significantly lower, recovery speeds up and the physical endurance improves. All of this allows us to recommend an accelerated recovery technique based on local cooling for practical application in sprint sports.
